Pop Up Card in a Box
The Pop Up Card in a Box is all the rage. My club made this and I wrote up some directions for them. These directions are for a card that will fit into an A-2 envelope. I took ideas from different tutorials i found and also changed a few measurements.
1. Cut piece of card stock 8-1/4” x 9”
2. Score along the 9” end at 2-1/8”, 4-1/4”, 6-3/8”, and 8-1/2”
3. Turn once and score at 3”
4. Place the 8-1/4” edge on top and the 3” score line at the left and measure and cut at 5-1/2” Save this piece
5. Measure and cut the scrap piece at 3-1/8”. Be sure to measure starting with the tab end. You will have a piece that will have score lines at either end. Cut in half at 1-3/8”. You should have 2 strips with score lines at either end. Fold tabs to resemble a “Z”. Place sticky strip on one tab and then flip to add sticky strip to the other tab.
6. Take the main card and with the 2-1/2” side (shorter side) at the top, cut down the scored lines to the perpendicular score line. Cut away the ½” tab on the top section.
7. Fold on the score lines and use sticky strip to attach the box together.
8. Choose one section to be the back. On the outside of the back panel is where you can write your message. The back layers: 2” x 5-3/8”, 1-7/8” x 5-1/4”
9. Cover the top inside flaps with DSP that measures: 1-7/8” x 2-1/4”
10. Attach the “Z” strips to the inside of the box. Take off the protective layer of the sticky strip on one edge of the “Z”. Attach it to the side of the box so it is flush with the side and the edge is next to the score line on the back corner. Take off the protective layer on the other end and lay the box flat and the other side should attach to the box side in the correct place. Repeat with the other “Z” strip on the front/side corner.
I used window sheets to attach the butterflies. It creates a nice illusion since you cannot see the widonw sheet and they also move a little.
