DIY Calendar Blog Hop…May

Welcome to the DIY Calendar Blog Hop.  On the first of every month we get together and share our calendar page for the month.  The calendar template was created by Anne aka the Maui Stamper. If you are interested in purchasing the calendar template please contact Anne.

When you think about the month of May what comes to your mind?  For me I hear, May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii.  Growing up in Hawaii  we usually had a school celebration or performance celebrating May Day.  So, I thought it only made sense to have my calendar page celebrate Lei Day.

I made a lei, a paper one for my calendar page.  The flowers are from the Impressions Abloom dies (Online Exclusive releasing on May 6).  I wanted to mimic  plumeria flowers so I cut the flowers out of Basic White and applied a little touch of Lemon Lolly ink to the centers.  I cut a lot of flowers. Luckily there are 2 of these dies in the Impressions Abloom set and each die cuts out 3 flowers.

The lei was constructed on a piece of Woven Textures DSP (Online Exclusive).  I chose this design as it reminded me of Lauhala.   Lauhala are the leaves of the pandanus tree.  The leaves are woven and can be used for many different things.  This is a cultural art form in Hawaii and a fitting background for my lei.

I am sorry to say that the ribbon I used, Daffodil Delight 1/8" ribbon has sold out.  I didn't have any other thin ribbon that matched my lei so I used it.  Also the aloha die cut is from a long retired  die set called In the Tropics.  We try not to use any retired products and I apologize but there was nothing else I had that was as perfect for the calendar.

Here are the stops of the hop.
